Question About "improving" Lures

Recommended Posts

Are the skirts or double blades improving the biting rate?

I understand wishes of fishermen to improve lures but how it's really working?

During the last salmon running on Sacramento River I've watch what kind of lures work better. I've continued that watching for long time (It were about hundred cases) and found that the best results shown by Mepp's flying "C" or similar lures without any "improvements".

IMHO it is just "bells and whistles".

Any suggestions?

It all depends on what improvements you are talking about. I've seen times where just a different shade of a particular color made a huge difference. And every day is different, the Flying C is one of those tried and true lures were the design just plain works just as the spinnerbait does for bass fishing but improvements, just like the lures them selves, sometimes work and other times they don't.

I'm talking about skirts or double blades particularly.

Yes, shade or color could make difference depending from daytime, angle of sunbeams or clouds but as I've talked already, I have no facts that skirts or double blades are improving the biting rate. I've watch that many times when about 50-70 fishermen in the same weather conditions have had different results.
