CraigS
I am new to making jigs and spend several hours reading the posts on this forum yesterday. Generally I fish salt water with ¼ ounce jigs with 3/0 hooks. Most of the molds with ¼ ounce jigs have 1 or 1/0 hooks. I was thinking of getting the Do-It SRH-6-A or the SRH-6-14, since they are for larger hooks. Does it make sense to get the 6-A and just pour one at a time, with the option of making a few different sizes, or should I get the 6-14 and pour 5 at once? I expect to make less then 100 jigs for a year. I plan on getting the Lee 10 lb pot, already bought some lead off ebay. One question, I have about melting lead, when done pouring, do you empty the pot, our just leave the lead in the pot until the next pour? atijigs
Go with the heavy hook mold. Even at 100 at a sitting using a single cavity would not be a problem. Leave a couple of inches of lead in the pot when you are done. Just like a gas pump be there and aware as you remelt the lead. Just because it is not leaking when it cools does not mean it will not leak as it reheats. Edited January 17, 2012 by atijigs
