Fulldraw84
Hey guys its been a while since I've been on this side of the forums. I just purchased a few of the sc5 blanks from mudhole they have on sale and want to built the rod as light as possible. Is the cost to performance worth going from the ring lock guide up to fujis sicarb. the one rod I bought is the 7.5' mh rated up to 1.25 oz. I will mostly use it as a bigger jig rod with spiral wrappings. Also has anyone used micros on spinning gear yet? I bought two of those toaday also and was wondering if I should give it a go? Thanks Joe
Mattman
I use Fuji's titanium framed SiC guides almost exclusively. I feel they have the best guides out there for various reasons. If a set of Alconite guides weigh X...a set of SiC's in the same frame style are 15% less than X...and titanium framed SiC's are 30% less than X. Reducing all the weight out on the working portion of your blank will go a long way towards keeping it feeling crisp and light and most like it does before you're forced to put guides on it. Sure you can use micros on spinning rods. I typically don't like to go smaller than 4's on my personal rods.
Fulldraw84
thanks for the reply Mattman. If I choose to go with micros on my spinning rods do I go with standard guides toward the base and then switch to micros at the tip. Or can smaller guides be used threw out. Also, has anyone used the new style of split handle that comes on the st croix legend tourney rods? I might go with one of those if it is nicer than the minima one. Mattman
You need to use "standard" guides from the reel to your micros. I usually have 3 sizes in addition to my micro size. The 1st guide is about 1/2 the diameter of the reel spool.
