Bigbass1001
I had a sales guy try to sell me this one step epoxy the other day, but wasn't willing to bite until I did some research. Has anyone tried this clear coat on their crankbaits? Component Systems Waterbased Seal Coat?
archeryrob
4 oz for $10. Sounds like it's not any cheaper than etex. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/fishing-lure-paint/023025000411.aspx
Bigbass1001
Any cheaper suggestions? I'm having a hard time finding something that will work at a decent price. The two part I'm using costs even more.
ute
I use a lot of CSI Seal Coat for various lead lures, but I really don't think it is what you are looking for when it comes to Crankbaits. It is very user friendly and dries crystal clear, but it is not as hard epoxy.
archeryrob
go to Micheals and buy etex Print and use this coupon to get 40% off the epoxy. Guys use this stuff on plugs for Blue fish and it holds up under them. Bass will hardly scratch this, but you'll need a lure turner. Bigbass1001
Thanks guys. I'm assuming that the Etex drys slower or runs more than other hardners? I looked at rotisarres and will probably have to get one if I plan on using this stuff, but it will be best for the long haul. archeryrob
Your making custom baits, so they cost you less, but are probably worth more emotionally to you. How much time is invested in them. A day or two more to let the bait sit to toughen it even more. Here is the installation sheet. http://eti-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Envirotex-Lite-English-Instruction-Sheet1.pdf Other prople are happy with other finishes, but I am using some on Stipers, Blues and salt fish. I see you witha musky there and more toothy critters are hard on a finish. Guys just cashing bass can use a water based poly as bass have small teeth. A lot of guys like 2 ton epoxy and in my research I find guys buying it and getting the yellowing kind by accident. I opted for the Etex as all the stiper lure makers are using it. If it works for stripers smallmouth bass will always do also.
rotorhead
I have tried the seal coat from Janns netcraft. It is not anywhere near as hard as e-tex or D2T. I would use either e-tex or D2t to final coat your plugs. You will need to rotate when using the two part clear coat but it will also hold up much better.
