Gami 5941 Hooks

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to see if the Gami 5941 flat eye 60° degree hook will fit any of these molds. The cavities I'm looking to use are 1/4, 3/8 and 3/4 oz. I want it to fit without mold modification if possible. I don't have this hook so I can't check the fit. The hooks come in 2/0,3/0 4/0 and 5/0. The molds I'm looking to use are weedless round (RWR-3-AYS,AYM and AYL), weedless football (FBB-4H-AFM and FBB-3M-AFM) and Arky (ARK-3-AY and AFC). Thanks for any help.

I have the round head and the football mold but not the Arky mold so that one I can't help you with but the other two, they are a no go without modification. I got one single one as a sample awhile back from Barlows, they told me it wouldn't fit but I wanted to try so they sent me a single 3/0 hook and as they told me, it was too heavy wire. Just so you know, I compared it to a Mustad 32796 and the Gammy 5941 was a hair thicker, I can't remember the numbers but I took them to work and measured the thickness with a micrometer. I was trying at the time to make a finesse flipping jig but I liked using the mold for other things so I didn't modify it. Sorry I can't help with the Arky mold.

I modified half the cavities on my Do It football jig mold, which was designed for 1/0 and 2/0 Mustad hooks, to accept heavier wire 3/0 and 4/0 hooks with a fine triangular file. It didn't take much to get them to fit.

I had to lengthen the hook eye area to accomodate the longer neck on the heavier hooks, but that wasn't hard with drill press. I set the depth so I didn't overdrill, locked the check down at that depth so I could move the jig with both hands, and went slow.

It took me probably less than an hour to do all the modifications.
