saltshaker Posted February 11, 2012 Report Share Posted February 11, 2012 I foiled a half dozen cranks for my nephew and I forgot to insert the eyes before I coated them with epoxy. Now, the eyes don't want to seat on the bait. I have a Dremel with about a million accessories but the problem is...I'm not really familiar with what alot of the accessories are used for. Is there an attachment that I can use to drill the sockets out to seat the eyes? I don't particularly like the way they look not recessed. The eye size is 5 or 6mm...forgot exactly. BobP Posted February 11, 2012 Report Share Posted February 11, 2012 You can use a Dremel cylindrical high speed cutter. They have a swirl pattern on their tops that will remove material but you have to control it carefully to keep it on target, then widen the circle it carves out a little to get up to the diameter you need. Non-Dremel Cylinder cutters with tungsten teeth will do the same job faster but they cost around $15 ea. Were it me, I'd go with traditonal painted-on eyes because I like their traditional crankbait look. Whichever method you use, you'll need to recoat the eyes with epoxy to keep the eyes intact. RayburnGuy Posted February 11, 2012 Report Share Posted February 11, 2012 (edited) I use a brad point drill bit to drill the recesses for my eyes. It has a center point to keep the drill bit from wandering and cutting edges on the outside diameter of the bit. I never worry about drilling the eye sockets when foilng a bait. I think it's easier to just apply the foil and drill the eyes with the brad point after the foil is applied. Bob, these baits are photo over foil. You think the painted eyes will do OK? Can't seem to find anything in my attachment arsenal that I'm comfortable with usin' to rheem 'em out.
