dchance
anybody got a good chart or guide for skirt recipes???? For example colors like Okeechobee Craw. I understand that is GP and Blue, but I don't know all the recipes. Or how many strands of such and such a color and so on. Or does everyone just kind of wing it? You make it to how you want it, that is the beauty of making your own skirts and jigs in general. If I gave 5 people the same mold, the same color paint and the same skirt tabs, I would end up with 5 jigs that look different from each other as everyone will postion the skirt tabs differently. Look at the color GP by itself, I'll bet there is at least a dozen if not more different shade of that color alone, and even different names as to some it is dark watermelon and then you have medium green pumpkin, and so on and so forth. Now if you want to be really good and be able to duplicate a jig or lure that really works good you need to keep track of where you purchased the skirt tabs and the item number and store then in a bag with that information printed on the bag just because of what I said earlier, there are a lot of different shades of GP and other colors as well. As for making Okeechobee craw, mix your green pumpkin and blue but be creative, for example if you are going to use say 3 skirt tabs you could use 2 GP and one blue or 1 and a half of each or 2 blue and 1 GP. You could also arrange them with a different number of strands of each color and make it more diverse instead of uniform. Again whatever you do keep track of what you did in case you want to replicate it. But have fun with it, make your own Okeechobbe craw or missouri craw or make your own combo and name it yourself.

Good advice, trying to replicate something you have made weeks ago by memory is virtually impossible especially if you don't have one to look at. I give my jigs names then in a spiral notebook, I write down the description of the skirt color and how many tabs and or strands of each color and how they are placed on the jig whether it is a finesse/spider skirt or a regular style skirt which I call a "Flop Over" in my description. I learned this the hard way when I lost my last jig of a batch that I had made up a couple of years prior. Some patterns are slightly complicated and my Memory just ain't what it used to be. Oldfart9999
As Smalljaw & JBlaze said, just wing it with notes. Rodney
