AustinTXAngler
Hey guys, just want to share more of my work. Being a newbie at pouring, it really helps my confidence to put my work up and get feed back from you guys. I also caught my first fish on one of my baits!!! A 1.8lb Guadalupe-Hybrid bass. I was dropshoting the 4" spade tail worms seen below. How cool!!! Well here are a few more colors I came up with. From left to right they go: Emerald Green, Green Gold Rush, Watermelon Red/Purple Pearl, Grey Ghost and my favorite, Watermelon motor oil. Here is a close-up of the motor oil, which bears a striking resemblance to the Yamamoto motor oil color. I made it by accident!!! When I took it in the sun I freaked out over how similar it was to the yamamoto color!! Mine is a little more green based where theirs has more red color in the tail. Cool!!!!! Thanks again from everyones help!!! Now I need some more molds! I'm hooked!!!
Mercury
If you havent forgot the color, then add it to the color recipe posting here in the color forum. It is a verry diffrent color and I know thats what its all about. Not having the same thing as evreyone else. Great job.
AustinTXAngler
Thanks!!! My recipies are at home and I am at work now. I will add it to the sticky when I get home. The pictures really don't do it justice either. You'll have to try it and see!!!
Kelly Denham
Great looking baits Brent! You really nailed some of those colors. They all look good, but knowing how well watermelon and variations of it work on Texas lakes, all those should produce for you. capecodsmallie
Brent, Great looking baits. I love that spade tail(have it myself). The colors look amazing. Stick with the aluminum molds. The baits look a 100 times better then the rubber molds. You fish any of the rivers(Llano,Blanco)?
AustinTXAngler
Thanks! I've fished both the Llano and the Blanco but not in a while. The blanco is just a short hop down the freeway so I go there more than the Llano. But my favorite is Town Lake right in the heart of Austin. I agree with you on the alum molds. I wont pour anything else after using those!!! (Thanks Del and Bob!)
BigZ
Your baits look awesome! I think you'd better order more plastic when you order your molds...LoL. I see you're using that holo string glitter in the grey ghost bait, I pour a smoke worm with that stuff and it works great anywhere there are shad. Nice photos too, plastics can be a real (4 letter word here) to take pics of. Keep up the good work!
AustinTXAngler
Thanks BigZ, I did order more plastic yesterday, I already used 3/4 a gallon in a week!!! I also got a 6" fluke mold and a 5" grub mold from Del-Mart. Still need to get my salt. I ordered a case of popcorn salt but it was damaged in shipping so they are resending it. When I get that I can start making the stick baits. I am sooooooo hooked!!! I do have a question for the microwave guys. After I get my plastic to the right pouring thickness (somewhat thin, like warm karo syrup) and add my color and glitter I get some awesome pours. After my initial pours I need to reheat the plastic for round two of pouring. Here is where I run into problems. I can't ever get the same consistency after reheating as I had upon my initial pour. I usually get small amounts of tiny bubbles after reheating and also end up with a thicker plastic. I am wondering if it is because I put the chunks off the stiring knife back in the plastic after stirring. I also peel the thin film on the inside of the cup and put it back in also and stir a BUNCH. I seem to heat and heat and heat and it wont ever get back to the same "thin" consistency I had on my first pours. Is there anything I can add to do to help? Worm oil? alsworms
Try not adding your leftover chunks until you're completely finished. When you add those, it's like reheating worms and it takes a lot longer to thin out the chunks. I usually won't reheat those until the job is done. If I do my figures right, the leftover plastic is saved for my personal fishing trips.
Tubeman
If you can, just mix enough for the molds you have, that will help...then again thats why I have so many Del Mart & Bobs Tackle Shack molds. The more you reheat, the more glitter bleed, gas bubbles, thickening & general discoloration will occur. Thats why hot pots reign supreme, contant temperature is the secret....and enough molds of course. Anyway, your lures looks awesome Tex. Keep it up and you'll begin to wonder about your day time job
Big Splash
Your baits look great, and its always neat to catch a few fish on your new stuff! Now you will have to read the tutorials on mold making..... that's a whole 'nother hobbie....and its not too difficult either.
