archeryrob
I have to be honest. I have a Basswood tree in my yard and is lost a limb that split and I had to prune it. I cut it up and saved it, of course. I was ecstatic to have some basswood and for free without destroying the tree. I have used pieces for lures making and poplar dowels also. They seem very similar in lure building to me so far. Wood densities on line lists Basswood as .3 to .6 and Poplar as .35 to .5 so they are almost exact for flotation. The only real difference I can verify so far is poplar irritates my nose from the sanding particles more if I do not wear my dust mask.
