mhtrapper
I am new to powder painting just wondered where the best place to buy powder paint . I am thinking a min. of a 4 oz. jars do to my fluid bed size in order to get depth . Maybe even 1 lbs. not sure what sizes are even avaiable. The 1 lbs would be plenty wouldnt even be able to put it all in cup . I also would like to know my cups are 3" in diameter and 3" tall with a 60 gal. pump how full should i fill my cup most videos show abaout a inch from the top. Been searching online today for a polyethylene porus style filters for the bottom of cup need to knoow how fine of filter one needs i read something about micron, wondered what the microns of powder paint would be i hope i am saying this right like i said i am new to this. Last night i used a piece of house wrap tyvex and a coffee filter still got a very little valcano action adjusted air down didnt seem to boil like i would like it to, i will keep trying till i get it right. cadman
mhtrapper, Here is some info for you: ****On the powder paint, you would need about 4 - 6 oz and yes when the fluid bed is at full boil the powder should be about 1" below the top of the cup. ****On the pourous filter, you can go to TJ's tackle on line, I believe he sells it. The stuff is not cheap. Finally from all the info I've gathered over the years from guys, all powder doesn't work flawlessly in a fluid bed cup. Some powder like white is heavier than others which may cause small volcanoes, so you still may get them.
mark poulson
If you swish the cup before you dip, it seems to help fluidize the powder and make full, light coating easier. Just a little shake, to get the powder loose and suspended. At least, that works for me.
Oldfart9999
I gave up & just started dipping in the spouts, haven't had any problems. Rodney
mhtrapper
Just ordered some filter boards from TJs tackle . I am the type that will pull know punches i will give you a honest update when i get them. I tried coffee filters, tyvex , coffee and tyvex combined . I seem to alway get a little valcano action and when i turned air down was not getting fluid action like i wanted. TJs said should notice a difference, we will see hopefully by this weekend. They were not that expensive so if they work they will be worth it. I bought enough to do 6 cups , four 2" and two 3" and if they work out i plan on ordering more . You will still get volcanos, certain colors like green pumpkin are dense and they never get boiling but there is a fix. All you need to do is give the fluid bed a swirl, pick it up and swirl it and quickly dip the jig or whatever and it works fine. When you swirl the bed you notice that even though you see a volcano on top and nothing else, the powder underneath is still fluidized. mhtrapper
Try Cadman on here he has some colors if not try Barlows or JANNS NETCRAFT they both have a nice selection. I think TJs tackle has it also.
