Wire Benders

Recommended Posts

It depends on what you want to do. I only need to make "R" bends for spinnerbait forms so I use a product called the little blue bender. I also use round nose pliers to make loops and other bends but if you need to make twist or complex type bends it is best to use a wire forming tool like the boggs tacklemaker or the hagend or twistech. You can use a good round nose pliers if you only need to do a few pieces but if you are doing a larger number of things requiring complex bends as I said before, then go with a wire forming tool.

if you use thicker wire, tools are very nice. I use .035 on most of my stuff and have used boggs, hagens and twistech over the years. twistech is the choice these days for a number of reasons--most of which is no limitation of length of spinner. Just my perspective...

I am sure you will like it. The only thing I don't like about the wire benders is the fixed line tie eye diameter. For the most part they works fine. I am doing more by hand now with a round nose pliers and vice grip because the wire diameter does not matter and I can form a much smaller line tie eye. This is for wraps and bends not spinner bait and buzz bait wire forms.

Well what kind of lures are you making with wire? Eyes? French spinners? Spinnerbaits? Prescot type spinners? what kind of fish are you fishing for as well? If your going for muskys or panfish... wire will make the difference and then choosing the correct tools.
