Need Opinions On A Large Scale Injector I Plan To Build.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to make a 10 to 12 oz injector to use with my 24 and 32 cavity injection molds. The 6" bait mold has 24 cavities and each bait weights about 3/8 of an oz. the 5" mold has 32 cavities and each bait is about 1/4 oz. Has anyone ever made or used a large scale injector like this? Here is my plan for this injector that I plan to have a local machine shop build for me. So I need to know if you guys see any problems with my idea or design before I have it made. I also need to know how long of a tube I would need for it to hold 10 to 12 oz of plastic. I dont know how to calculate this and I don't know how much volume an oz of plastic is. The tube will be made from aluminum and 2" on the outside and about 1 3/4" on the inside. Tnx for any input.

Yes Basstackle has one but it take some effort to use it to its full advantage. I use it and leave it hot so I dont have to clean it out every time I shoot. Basically I just leave it in the presto pot and keep shooting. It is monster though. 99 bucks delivered is worth a try. Not sure about the real capacity but they must be reading this forum because the size of there injectors has changed a bit (just a bit longer). If you need something a little bigger you might want to talk with the anyways as they actually make there injectors in house(Kevins Dad is the injector doctor over there). Frank

I made my own 9.9 oz injector. I posted it in the gallery here if you want to look at it. All the parts are spread out.

It works fine except the cold wipe plug is bigger than you would think until the injector gets pretty hot. I don't see anything major wrong with your injector. Not sure its worth paying somebody else to do it as a 1 off job. I think Bass Tackle already makes one with a claimed 10oz capacity. Might be cheaper than having one made as a one off project.

Bob could you tell me the dimensions of the one you made?

The suction gun "JSC" suggested would be cheaper than having something built . I bought one about ten years ago to experiment with injection molding and it worked . Both end caps thread ON/OFF just like your design and a threaded brass fitting of your choosing will thread into the end cap to mate with your mold .

The body gets kind hot so I put some split foam pipe insulation and duct take on for insulation.

Wear leather gloves when pouring .
