Fuzzy-Wuzzy
Decided to stay away from the hard and flexible tails. I ended up trying out some Rabbit Fur. LOOKS DAMN AMAZING in the test sink hahaha. Gonna give it a try tomorrow and see how the tail makes it swim. Any thoughts on using fur for a tail? Vodkaman
Why not. Should have a nice flowing movement to it. Dave
bassguy
Like Vodkaman said, "Why not?" Out of the box thinking is what we strive for to make lures different!
Fuzzy-Wuzzy
HAHA well yes it looked great in the water. Had to take off the top brown fur to make it swim correct. Worked great until it snapped off my line. Didn't notice there was a strip in my line and SNAP!!! its in the bottom of the lake now. Making Number 2 and 3 tonight. Vodkaman
Ha! we have all been there. The next will be even better anyway. Dave
RayburnGuy
That's the worst thing about building sinking baits. If the line ever breaks it's headed for the bottom of the lake. Makes you wish you were fishing it on well rope. Ben Edited March 26, 2012 by RayburnGuy
jigmeister
I'll bet you were " Hopping Mad" when your line broke .
Fuzzy-Wuzzy
Oh man you guys i was furious. I had to apologize to a family because their kids heard a few swear words they shouldn't hear at that age. I was 2 seconds from going into the lake because it was probably only 20 feet from shore. Then some guy tells me it drops off really deep after 10 feet out. So now i'm making two more. One will be a floater hahahahaha.
Nathan
You can work some clear silicone in to the tail..let it dry and trim the tail to any shape you want.I generally leave my fins alone and don't add the silicone...Nathan
Vodkaman
What I found was how much further they fly without the restriction of line, when it snaps because the bail arm flipped back. It was impressive, however, my language was not! Dave

Dave Should have bought Fireline...lol after fishing in a few of the good Northern Pike lakes up north and going thru a small lunch sack full of spoons and leaders... I switched up to Fireline.... haven't lost a lure since not even with the really small ultra lite line...
Vodkaman
Should have bought Fireline...lol after fishing in a few of the good Northern Pike lakes up north and going thru a small lunch sack full of spoons and leaders... I switched up to Fireline.... haven't lost a lure since not even with the really small ultra lite line...I will keep a look out for that, thanks. Have been suffering a lot with line breakages lately and getting sick of it. So many of my prototypes swimming around in fishes mouths. I do feel sorry for the fish too.Dave
Griffond
Berkley fireline or Spiderwire .... its not cheap but well worth what you pay for it... can you have stuff shipped from Amazon.com or Cabela's?
oksparks
Those look cool. I have been using deer hair to make tails and they look really nice and seem to be stiff enough to help the action. Similar to a Bull Shad tail.
mark poulson
I never fish one of my swimbaits with anything less than 20# mono or fluoro. I don't use braid, because, if it tip wraps or digs into the spool on the cast, it snaps.
striperman88
Het Fuzzy-Wuzzy, I have a few questions: Out of curiosity, why did you decide to stay away from hard and flexible tails? Is there an abvious disadvantage when dealing with these types? Also, what method did you use to attach the fur? Thanks! John
Fuzzy-Wuzzy
Het Fuzzy-Wuzzy, I have a few questions: Out of curiosity, why did you decide to stay away from hard and flexible tails? Is there an abvious disadvantage when dealing with these types? Also, what method did you use to attach the fur? Thanks! John Only reason I went with Rabbit fur is because I make all my Fuzzy-Wuzzy lures out of rabbit fur. Flows so nice in the water when its wet and decided to give it a try on the swimbait tails. As far as attaching the fur, I'm just putting some supper glue in on the top and bottom of the tail slit after i press in the fur. I'm thinking if i put the gloss finish on the part of the tail it would hold better also.
striperman88
Thanks Fuzzy Wuzzy! Rabbit fur will now make an intriguing addition to my lure making arsenal. John
davemyway
I bought a cheap paint brush for the tails . looks good and soft enough to give it some action
