Hooks For Hilts Tube Jig Mold

Recommended Posts

I'm looking into the Hilts tube jig molds because they have a mold that has 2 each of 1/8oz and 3/16oz sizes, the only problem is I don't know if the hooks I want to use will fit. I know they do with the Do-it but they don't have a multip 3/16oz cavity in any of the tube styles. The hook I want to use is the Matzuo black chrome 9010 aberdeen 90 degree sickle hook, I have a source that told me they will replace any and all bad ones but they sort them out so I shouldn't to many bad ones is any at all.

If someone will sort, replace any that won't fit or are broken before sending to you yes I would take them. BUT!!! I would still sit down and dry fit the hooks in the mold before pouring just so it doesn't slow you down.

I'm actually getting to the point with the red ones of taking a dremel and carefully making the eyelet slot in the molds bigger for the long shank that comes on many of the Matzuo's.

I haven't tried the black chrome ones yet - do they hold up better than the bronze or red ones??? and do they cost the same??

I'd love to find a place that will sort them before selling to me!!!!!!!!!!! If you'd care to share where you're getting this deal PM me and if not that's cool too.

Fatman, for a long time I've had friends that wanted jigs using the Matzuo sickle hooks and when I got a lot of bad ones I decided that was the end of them. Well I got some tube heads from a friend with the black chrome and they are sharp and will work great fishing tubes but I was scared so I email captain hooks and they told me they now have much better quality control as they were going to stop selling them due to the problems but if I was to order them and I get a bunch of bad ones they would replace them. While they don't pre sort everyone they do check a large portion and so far they told me there aren't many bad ones, however I didn't think to ask about the consistancy of the eye shank so I don't know how that is. Hilts molds is either out of business or they don't answer emails because I've tried a few times to contact them to no avail so I'll have to scap the idea of getting a mold from them. I'm not sure if the black chrome are sharper or hold up better but on the heads I have they look good and seem to be a decent quality but I still plan on getting the Eagle Claw EL570BP as a back up because if I get the mold I don't want to have to be waiting on hooks if there are a large number that need to be replaced. So far the EL2798 flat eye hooks from Eagle Claw have recieved a big thumbs up from myself and some friends I gave jigs to in order for them to fish and give me feedback as to how the hooks are performing and not a single complaint so I'm confident in the black platinum hooks from Eagle Claw but I still want to use the Matzuo.

I poured with the red ones last year for an order. I did 500 and I think at least 100 of the 500 were bad hooks. Either the eye was screwed up, the eye shank was too long or too short, some tips didnt have barbs, some didnt even have shapened tips, and some werent even bent... I refuse to pour with them again. If the quality has improved then I might consider it, but capt hooks had better be ready to give me my money back if 1/5 the hooks are bad like last time.

I know they are bad and I was told no refunds but hooks would be replaced. I just need to know if the Hilts mold accepts these or if they take the EL570BP thats it.

The Hilts website (Dophin Sports) is still open but they're having alot of problems with their website - email or call for help. This was the answer I got back cause I was trying to download the catalouge.

On the mold you were looking at getting the description on the ON-LINE store shows:

CGZ-M

1ea. 1/8,1/4&3/8oz Your favorite

90deg bend

jig hook

1/0-3/0 $34.95

I've been watching the posts on the EL570bp hooks and have only heard good things about them. I might get a couple of hundred black chromes just to try them but really getting sick of the red ones.

Thanks for the info!!!

Fatman, I thought I'd try the EL570BP since I have been impressed with the EL111BP and the EL2798 hooks, Eagle Claw did themselves proud, the hooks are sharp, durable and so far after 6 months haven't rusted.
