Painter1
I am wondering if there is a way to use powdered coloring on a bait as an accent. Like putting a bit of orange on the belly of a plastic swimbait or adding some dark streaks / lines. I recall reading here that someone was using a small brush to do this? Any tips would be most welcome.
squigster
Yes you can add accents if you dip it afterwards. I take a small dry brush and brush highlight on a bait dry and then dip it in clear. Gives a really cool effect especially if the baits are translucent. If you do not dip it in clear then it will come right off. also you cannot be accurate dry brushing. I just use it to add light effects to the translucency. Works really near on ribbed baits. Not sure about dark streaks as I am not aware of black highlight although someone may sell some
Painter1
So if I did not want to dip the bait how could I get a bit of color on the belly? Do I need an airbrush and paint or dye? Thanks for the help
MonteSS
A Sharpie marker works well. I add a black back on flukes, red gills, orange belly, etc. ...Bill
oksparks
Check out the Alumidust product. Watch Larry's video it is interesting. I have not tried it. http://www.alumilite.com/ProdDetail.cfm?Category=Support%20Products&Name=Alumidust

Thanks for the help They sell paint at Lurecraft I believe for airbrushing soft plastics but from what I hear you need a lot of ventilation when painting with it. Not sure if that's because it stinks or is toxic or both. here is the link http://www.lurecraft.com/catalog.cfm/plastic-products/paint-for-plastic-lures

rhahn427
That's for jigs. This question is about soft plastics. Oh ....... sorry ...... thought you were talking about powder painting ........ Anyway ....... the Larry Dahlburg method works great ........ paint the mold with the colored powder and pour the plastic then dip it in clear to preserve as someone else posted ........ he did a show not to long ago demonstrating it .......
