spinman
Just wondering if there is a concenus of some kind on size, style and brand of hook for musky bucktail spinners. Not sure if the musky guys are as particular as salmon guys can be on hooks. Thanks.
BBK
Cant go wrong with Gamakatsu 3/0-7/0 depending on the lure. Most want gamakatsu or owner, but I have been making mine with VMC lately and they are SHARP! Edited March 29, 2012 by BBK

Griffond
Yeah I use Gamakatsu and VMC never used owner....
spinman
Anyone have any specific numbers on the gammy or vmc...assuming heavier wire hooks...I am familiar with VMC--use the 9650 a lot--is that a good one? Seems like the baits I have seen have heavier looking hooks.
Griffond
Ah the other thing I guess I would mention is if you are going fishing somewhere like canada I actually use cheaper hooks like eagle claw because instead of taking the hook out of the fishes mouth and harming the fish we just cut the hook with a side cutter... and actually the cheap hooks hold up rather well never had one straighten out anyway... did have a couple break... didn't loose any fish thou... esoxbuckeye
I use Mustad 3551 in size 7/0 for double ten bucktails.

spinman
Thanks guys. Looks like I'll go with the VMC since that is what I use on my salmon stuff. I have some 4/0 9650's that seem like they should do the job. Appreciate all the input. Now, lets hope I can out and go after some with the new creations...
