tbrinlee
I need help finishing some 150g jigs. I am heading blacfin fishing next weekend and made up the jigs to take with me. Here's the question, should I have gone with the treble hooks on teh back (pictured) or should I have made some assist hooks to attach to the front? I had a blast making them. Powdercoat undercoat (glows green), clear acrylic for the belly so I could sprinkle on some dollar store glitter. I used Rustoleum fluorescent orange, pink, metal flake green and blue (That is the color order in the picture), The dots were made using a sharpie pen. Devcon 5 minute epoxy (yes the setup time way WAY too short). Anyway I had a great time making them for myself. Any help on the hook size and placement would be appreciated. BLT
It would ba all up to you if you wanted to add a hook to the front also. Either way will catch 'em. Be careful with how you do it/what hook you use, you don't want it to get tangled on your line.

I was worried all the way up until the epoxy went on. The florescent paint looked dull until the epozy hit it and then it really popped. smalljaw
I think you made the right choice with hooks, most jigs that use the assist hook have a wider profile than what you made so the trebles look like a perfect choice. I can really tell you had a fun making them just by your description, that is why we make our own tackle, we all feel like that during the process. I've had so many people say that it is just easier to buy the stuff as it saves so much time and effort and that is true but they fail to realize the time and effort is what make it woth while doing, not to mention it is fun. Good luck on your trip.
toadfrog
Use a big single hook if you go after fish with teeth . Trebles are a real pain to get out when the fish has more sharp edges than your hook .
tbrinlee
Thanks for the comments the guy on the tuna forum also suggested the single hook. One of the boat captains said when they start flopping around that it can be a real hazard. Thanks. Tony
Oldfart9999
The jigs(spoons) look good, keep up the good work. The extra hook is up to you, some of the pros use them. Rodney
