bug11
Need some advise. I'm starting to experiment with spinnerbaits. The one thing I'm unsure of is swivels. What to look for, what to buy & what size. I only have1 mold, 1/4 & 3/8 C style Do-It Mold. I got .040 R wire & #5 colorado blade. I've been told a #2 size swivel. Would really like some input, the do's & dont's of spinnerbaits. Thank's
ukey28
I tried the imported Ball Bearing swivel and one out of four were messed up when I got them, the rest gave it up after a little bit of use. I now use Worth swivels on the baits I sell. I like their slim design and they have lasted. On my own lures I use roller swivels. They make a bit more noise and I think it helps my fishing. smalljaw
For 1/4oz up to 1/2oz I use a size #2 ball bearing swivel. The Worth ball bearing swivels are the best I've used and the quality is IMHO the same as Sampo swivels which are considered the best. I have used both and if Sampo swivels are better than the Worth it is by the smallest of margins and the best part is you can get the Woth a little cheaper but not much, that is the downside as they are still around 65 to 70 cents per. I believe Barlows has a good deal on them in a 100 count, look for spinnerbait swivel size #2.

Like ukey28, I tried the cheaper imported swivels and many of them were of poor quality. I also would highly recommend Worth blades. The quality and finish of their blades is second to none. Do you mean a just Worth Swivels http://www.chuckanddeb.com/swivels.htm or Worth Ball Bearing Swivels http://www.kingstonlures.com.au/spinnerbait_swivels.htm ? Regards Number 2 at Kingston is the Worth for sure. They make a fine wire split ring that goes nicely with the swivel for blades too. Regards What I was refering to was the Worth ball bearing swivels, I don't use crane or roller swivels on my baits. I have tried them in testing and I don't think they come close to the ball bearing swivel.
bug11
I think I bought some Worth swivels today. They are pricey. Lol.. I got a pack of 10 from a local store to try. I found a 6 ball bearing swivel @ fishingskrits.com, $8.00 per 10. Has anybody tryed them?? There made by Boss just for Fishingskirts. Just use the Worth, the swivels from BOSS might be good but for that price you are better off with a proven winner. I also highly doubt that the BOSS swivels are better than a Worth but even if it was, the difference would be so small that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Thinking and knowing for sure what you got are two different things, buy them from a source that has them labeled or has it printed in the description that what you are getting is indeed a Woth ball bearing swivel. I know it sounds trivial because it is just a swivel but the swivel happens to be a vital part of the bait and there are so many import swivels that just flat out fail after short use that it makes no sense to even think about using them. If you want a quality bait, use the Worth swivel, if you aren't concerned about it, then get whatever, it is as simple as that.
bug11
Thanks everybody for your advise. If you say Worth the best then that's the I'll go. That's what I like about this web sight. Ask a question & get a answer. It saves me a lot of time going throw the trail & error of knowing what to buy or if it will work. The swivel I bought yesterday where from DO-It but I think I'll use them on my personal spinnerbaits. Gives me a chance to practice some more on the spinnerbait. Now on to blade selection. Lol... Thanks again everybody.

Thanks again everybody. No problem bug11, it really is up to you as to what components you are going to use but a lot of us have been making our own lures for a long time, even before this website so we are just trying to let you know what we've tried and what has worked. I am one who has tried probably every import swivel you could imagine including the ones from Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas and every lure I put them on that I didn't lose had the swivel fail, and it happens sometimes from one trip to the next and it is due to inferior materials, that explains why they are cheap. Everytime I need swivels, yeah, it hurts in the wallet but I always feel better knowing that my lures have extreme high quality components like the Worth Ball bearing swivel and Worth spinner blades, and high grade stainless steel wire, it is a matter of pride, yes it costs more but in the end it is well woth the money, time and effort.
