tbrinlee
As I mentioned in another post I have a tuna trip this weekend. All total I made 6 oz Glow diamond jigs, 4 oz spearhead jigs, 5 oz flutter gigs and now some 2 oz squid jigs. I would be interested in suggestions on how to fish them and for what. I am thinking of using them for vermilion snapper (b-liners) on a bottom rig with a piece of quid on the trailer hook. I did change my epoxy for these I used some 24 hour cure Rustoleums Parks Super Glaze Epoxy. This is the second time I have used the product. The first time I used it I had problems with it curing as some other forums have noted. We will see how durable it is in saltwater. I had a lot of fun making them. Thanks for reading the post. 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp 2oz Squid Jigs BMP.bmp

andy1976
Seems like they were for sale on his web site. Maybe we can get tbrninlee to do a swap or sell some. I've got his mold that looks similar to a megabait on his front page. great mold 4 to 12 oz
Kasilofchrisn
I just bought a mold on EBAY to make these. It is made by a company in austria. The mold is a two piece mold and makes 100-120and 170 gram squid heads. That is @ 3.5oz 4.2oz and 6oz. I hope it works good. I have never used a two piece mold before but should be able to make it work for me. Thanks for the idea guys. I think these could work good for my fishing sometimes. I have some Reading molds that are in halves. Biggest one being an up to 28 oz. trolling lure/sinker. Never use it, may have to hit e-bay with it. I have 5 of those reading molds. Use vice grips to hold them shut most times.

Thanks! that was what I was thinking myself was to use a vise grips of one design or another. If you ever decide to sell those other molds I am interested just send a pm. I like the big stuff for our halibut fishing in the saltwater. If you decide to Ebay them let me know via pm as I will probably bid on them. Thanks again ! Kasilofchrisn
I did look and Shawn Collins does show a squid jig mold to make the ones like Tbrinlee made on his website. Both a fixed hook and one with just an eye for a free swinging hook. In a whole host of sizes from 1/2oz to 20oz. I will say Tbrinlee made some nice looking jigs that should catch some good fish. Hopefully he will comment on the mold used to make them.
BLT
If I do lean to selling them, I'll let you know. I'd rather do a fair price to a forum member than make another 2 bucks to a person on E-bay.

I will tell you that I much prefer the hook to be fixed into the head of the jig than the split ring attachment method I had to use for these. To me that was a very big negative in my book. Kasilofchrisn
It is good to hear that you found him. I hope he has a mold for you. I found his website and will post a link. It is only one page written in Austrian? with some fishing pictures and a link to his stuff on EBAY. Wish I could read his webpage. http://pc-fishing.com/ Edited April 16, 2012 by Kasilofchrisn

Kasilofchrisn
Well I just got the mold from PC-Fishing in the mail. This is the worst mold I have seen. The one side is OK but the other is real real rough from poor sandcasting.Lots of rough stuff sticking up inside the mold cavity and in the gates. I guess better in than out as removing Aluminum will be easier than filling in voids would be. This mold is obviously made from a homade samples and not machined in any way. I will definetly have to clean it up with my dremel tool. Still it was a lot cheaper than the Shawn Collins molds by over $100 I am sure. BLT
Good luck with the mold. I bought 1 mold off ebay from an American company, and was highly let down by it. Don't even use it any more, wasted $75.
mkvnmtr
We had some molds custom casted here in Mexico. From two different guys the were poor quality. We could not use them and went back to bondo molds.
tbrinlee
Well... I ordered one of his molds. We'll see what it looks like when it gets here. I will be honest... I am thinking of just casting my own mold at this point. I don't like the rings for the hook. I really like the hook embedded in the lead and fixed since it is less likely to foul my line. Toward that end I ordered a Jet 1014I lathe to get started. Not really sure where this is going but at least it'll be fun. I down loaded some pictures of the loligo peilei (long finned squid). Converted the pixels to cm and calculated gram weights of of it. Also I reall want 3 versions of hook attachment for different fishing styles. I want straight, angled and 90 degree bend on the eyelets. I then used the dims I took from the picture to draw a rough sketch of the head to see if it was anywhere close. The hand drawing from the dims look pretty good (or at least good enough to start turning when I return from Asia). If I can figure out how to attach a spread sheet I will post the Dims. Ok... I stored it in google docs. lets see if this works. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiqJPT8D6Q9ydFp3d24wRTF3c0k5aG9IMVdNTnk0cUE Tony
tbrinlee
OK... I got the mold from PC-Fishing. They work as advertised. I updated my version of the 2oz squid jig by making my own mold. I turned a head on the lathe, cut a bill out and then made a silicone mold using high temp moldmax 60. Which skirt do you guys like the silicone rubber skirt or the rubber one? Here us the model I used to make the mold as well as the first jig out of the mold. I had a lot of fun with this. I still have a 3/0, 5/0, 6/0, and 7/0 hooks so maybe I'll make a 7/0 for some Blackfin fishing. Thanks for looking. Tony
Kasilofchrisn
Here are some that I made. I added an 8/0 owner ssw on 150# spectra in assist fashion in the top eye and the same hook on a splitring on the bottom. I also wired the skirts on. Kasilofchrisn
Those look really good. Nicely done. When you say wired the skirts on, what did you mean? Tony The Skirts I used were just what we call "Hootchies" here in Alaska with the tips of the heads cut off. Just like these in this link. http://www.basspro.c...ct/97127/123934 What I do is after adding the skirt to the jigs is I double wrap it in stainless safety wire and then use my wire twisting pliers to securely twist the wire. http://www.chiefairc...ire/ns-032.html The wire is available at most hardware stores I believe. http://www.amazon.com/Aircraft-Racing-Safety-Twist-Pliers/dp/B00123YE7E/ref=sr_1_3?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339773051&sr=1-3&keywords=wire+twist+pliers I cut the wire off leaving 2 or 3 twists. Then I bend the wire over tightly and tap it with a the side of the pliers againt the side of the jig. This also dulls the wire ends so it doesnt want to cut your hands. I found on the bigger size from my squid mold it held the skirts fairly tight. On the smaller size jigs the skirts were too easy to pull off so I decided to wire them all on.
