smalljaw
Hey all, toward the end of last season my friends and I discovered a hollow body swimbait bite and we came to the conclusion the best performing hollow bait was the Basstrix followed by a close second was the Bass Magic from Luck-E-Strike. Anyway I was looking to get a mold for either a weighted hook or a jig head but I'm undecided. I like the jig head and I've been using a Do-it Snootie jig, it does require a drop of glue but it works really well but the weighted hook allows me to fish the bait much slower. I was wondering what you guys use to fish these baits, I was going to just continue to use the Snootie but I was looking at the grass jig just because it has a ring and barb so that has multiple possiblities but weighted hooks are pretty expensive and they get hard to find in the right combo like a 4/0 hook with a 1/4oz weight and so on. So what do you suggest, I really am struggling so I need some fresh imput, so if anyone can help me make up my mind I'd appreciate the help, thanks. cadman
Smalljaw, You and I fish the same jigs and we both love the Snootie jig which is my go to bait every start of everyday of fishing, then I switch around if that jig doesn't produce As far as the weighted hook goes, I definitely would get the mold. I personally like the action of the way it goes through the water. You can't get that with a jig in my opinion The only suggestion I would make is this. If and when you buy this mold, I used to use the hitch hikers to keep the bait in place. However threading the nose end onto the hitch hiker is a royal P.I.T.A especially if you are in a hurry. Also everything is harder to do on the lake.Do your self a favor and buy the Owner style keepers with the centering pin. Push the centering pin in the nose of the bait and then screw it on. Much, much easier. PM sent.
Oldfart9999
You could by the weights from BPS to put on the hooks, the advantage being that you can place the weight toward the front, the middle, or the back of the hook, each spot gives you a different fall.
