dlaery
Can someone direct me to a place to get a small ladle that works good with pouring spinner/buzz baits. I think I would like a bottom pour. Does anyone have an opinion what works best. It looks like the bottom pour with the spout would not over pour as bad. The ladle I have is a little big and it is hard to keep the lead from pouring around the wire. Thanks,
smalljaw
Barlows tackle sells a small ladle with a wooden handle, I use it to pour up to 3/4oz spinnerbaits and it does a great job. The ladle itself holds like 2oz. of lead and has a "spout" on each side so left or right hand pouring is no problem. Like I said, up to 3/4oz is great but because it only holds 2oz you do not want to do 1oz jigs as the quick dumping of lead works best when the ladle is right at half full, if it goses too much over half it doesn't go into the cavity but over it instead. The bottom pour is tough simply because you need to finish bending the wire after the pour because it doesn't fit under the spout with the wire alreay bent. Not to mention that but if you use a harder alloy for spinnerbaits like I do, you can dump the lead in faster with the ladle than you can with the bottom pour. cadman
David, I think this is the ladle Smalljaw is referrring to ( see link below). I use it as well, as it is small and light. I fire up my Lee IV pot and when I am having issues with some molds, I just leave my ladle in the pot and scoop the lead out of the Lee pot with my ladle. Check around for prices They vary. I think Graf & Sons in Mexico, MO has them as well. Don't know how far that is from you.
