oldtoolsniper
I ordered both snootie jig molds and I would like to know what types of hooks work in these molds besides the factory recommended choices. The second thing I would like to know about that hook is why you choose it or what the application is intended for. (ie. it's a light wire hook that bends out easy on a snag)
cadman
Read the thread below in the wire bait forum "Snootie/problems and Questions", gives you lots of good info. I use stout hooks on these jigs and I fish them religiously. Owner 5304's and Mustad 32786's. I personally don't use any other hooks when I fish this jig. It fishes well with the hooks I use and I've caught a boatlod of fish on the smaller jig.
smalljaw
When I make a flipping jig with the Snootie I use the Mustad 32768 or the Owner 5304, these are stong hooks that I have snagged laydowns with and never bent the hook plus they are extremely sharp. For the swim jigs I make with my Snootie I use the Gamakatsu 2014 EWG hook, it only comes in 4/0 and up so you can't get it in smaller sizes but the reason I use it on a swim jig is because the Snootie has a ball collar and without a bab to hold the plastic better I use the EWG hook as it not only has great hooking and holding power but it also does a great job of holding the trailer on. One thing you will discover with that jig is the ability to come through grass, I love making a 3/8oz light flipping jig with a 3/0 Owner 5304 jig hook and using a zoon super chunk jr as the trailer, that jig I make is for a specifc place, a big weed bed on a lake I fish, I just slowly move on the water and when I find holes in the weedbeds I just give this jig a little flip and let it fall stright to the bottom but very seldom does it make it. If I make the jig bigger it falls to fast and doesn't get bit, if I use a bigger hook and trailer I miss a lot of fish and for once I know why, the fish use the hole as ambush points and when something is in the hole they want to eat they quickly dart out and grab it and turn and run back into the weeds. I watched it happen and with the bigger hooks and trailer they don't always get all the way in their mouth, I spen a long time developing my "weed thing" jig and it is nothing short of fantastic. Use your imagination with the snootie jig, it truly is an awesome jig.
oldtoolsniper
That's the kind of information I am looking for! Do you find Captain hooks to be the best place for these hooks or should I look some place else?
