Romeo D
I've bought that one as well and it has broke as well. I took it apart and the plastic just crumbles like POP. I had a Raytech that has lasted 10+ years before I lost it.
mark poulson
The digital thermometer I use is the Micro Temp, by MTPro, or vice versa. It's worked well for several years so far, but I haven't conducted a drop test on it yet. Hahaha I'm sure any of these units will hold up if you don't drop them. Solid state electronics don't like to be dropped on hard surfaces. Go figure!

Smallie
Raytek is a very good unit. If you search around with Google, you can often find it on sale somewhere for similar money. I use the MT4 and got it on eBay.

Dave, That's probably because you actually know what you're doing. I don't, so I need all the help I can get so I don't scorch my plastic. I am just a hobby pourer, for myself and some friends if they ask. Mostly I fish what I pour. I have wasted some plastic because I got it too hot. I was just learning how to avoid that when I heard about the digital thermometer, and got one. It has made my heating, and reheating, a much easier thing than before. For me, easier equals more fun.
