mp
Hey Skeeter, I have foiled and applied epoxy to my first balsa wood crankbait, this bait is somewhat like a Dbait, I have ordered a paint spray gun from harbor freight and purchased some createx paint , my question is can I just spray paint directly on my first coat of epoxy or do I need to sand it first, and how long should I let the paint dry before appying the second coat of epoxy. Thanks
Coley
Yes, you have to sand the shine off the the epoxy or the paint won't stick. It will bead up. Coley
Skeeter
Coley would probably know better than I would about the Createx. I have shot straight lacquer on unsanded devcon with no problems before. But, I usually just touch sand the devcon with 220 sandpaper lightly. Just knock the sheen off of it and you should be good to go. If your shooting the same color and just giving the lure a second coat then I would wait about 10 minutes and then hit it again. If you are changing colors then you really need to make sure that the first color is completely dry. I would only make a pass or two with Createx and let it tack before hitting it again. Wet Createx does not build well with multiple coats. It will blow and run. Skeeter

Terrydabassman
Hit the Createx with a hair dryer, dries in a minute or two.
