Pouring Senkos

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to the forum but I've been pouring baits for a few years now. Anyway, I've got some questions about hand pouring senkos with open molds. What ratio of salt to plastic works best? Also, when I've been pouring them all the salt sinks down to the bottom of the bait so it's solid salt on the bottom and none on the top. How do I avoid this? Thanks

Sticks are full round baits. Not sure you can hand pour them in an open mold. There are two pice hand pour molds for sticks.

Use finer or powdered salt to suspend better. The powdered salt is whiter and will change your color formula quite a bit.

I use 4:1 plastic to Bears powdered salt ratio and inject. Many use 3:1 or even 2:1.

I add 4 tablespoon of softener per cup of medium.

I've made a couple of my own one piece Senko molds. I never tried them with salt, but I did notice the flake would settle to the bottom before they cured enough. I imagine salt would be much worse yet. Once I switched to two piece aluminum hand pour molds, that settling stopped, and I use 2 ounces of salt for every 4 ounces of plastic (and 1 ounce of softner). I think with the aluminum molds, they start solidifying down near the bottom before you reach the top while pouring, and that stops the settling.

get a hand pour aluminum 2 pc stick mold.

you can make good senkos w/ the lure craft mold too..

use less salt & pour with the temp of the plastic cooler.

try to pour @ apx. 290 degs. or cooler if it will pour. softer plastic also pours better when cooler.

when the plastic is hot the salt & glitter settles a lot more.
