New Skirt Material !

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I just got my order from LPO and I'm very happy!! I don't know if anyone paid attention to the emails but they recently advertised this bio silk skirt material that is supposed to give the user the benefits of silicone with the action and feel of rubber. Well I got some and I gotta tell you, it is pretty much true. When you first get it you don't really notice too much of a difference, I was bummed until I opened it up and then I went from feeling ok about it to fantastic after making a jig and testing it out in a bucket of water. This material has a little bit more bulk than regular silicone, the strands are the same width but just a hair thicker, you also will notice it has a more elastic feel and when you make a skirt it does flair a bit more too. In the water it is evident though, my normal silicone material I'm perfectly happy with the way it works and flairs but this stuf flairs and then moves a little more free, a slight movement of the jig causes a quick pulse, quicker reaction time than the standard silicone. Now you need to know, this isn't round material, it looks close to the normal silicone we use just a tad bit thicker, not wider. There isn't much in the way of colors, you have a choice of flat or electric and they are pretty much base colors. The way I'm using it is for the main color of a jig with maybe some barbed wire silicone for accent but nothing more, the reason for that is I believe the benefit of this is going to be in the action. When it comes to the action don't expect something completely different from the silicone that we use now, I woukld call it enhanced action, it does flair better and it seperates a lot better, that is the biggest difference. While the silicone we use seperates once it is in the water the bio silk seems to seperate and flair much quicker and it also would seem to be springier for lack of a better term. I made 2 finesse jigs to match some I already had made with regular material, I used the same amount of strands in each and dropped them in the water side by side. When you do that the difference in action is immediately noticeable and I think it will result in an extra bite or two and that extra bite could be the one that wins me a tournament or gets me a trophy!. Anyway, I wanted to write this up for anyone who looked at the stuff and was wondering what it was like. I got electric green pumpkin, coffee, orange, and white with most of it being green pumkin and coffee with the white and orange for accent colors. I think a full 60 strand skirt of this would make a really nice full size jig and I haven't done it yet but I'm assuming the more strands in the skirt the bigger the difference in action but I'm only assuming because I only made a couple of finess jigs but so far I like it and I see a lot of possibilities with it as a more lively spinnerbait skirt in addition to a more robust jig skirt. So if you were on the fence and what I described sounds like it may be something you want to try I suggest you give it a go, I was hesitant but I'm glad I got it.
