dlaery
I am looking for some opinions on the barb on the bait holder of some of the Do-It molds. I have attached a pic of one on a FB head. This is not a barb, I don't know what to call it. Here is more of a spike Now the spike may be too sharp and cut solid body plastics. I make jigs and I always struggle with this to know which type of bait holder to use. I make some with the wire keeper, but that's a different story. What do you all prefer and why? Fatman
I really don't worry about it - I tear up my plastics to fast anyway throwing in the trees. Get yourself one of the cauterizer tools for plastics and just fix them as you go.

BassBull
Boy thats a tuff call. I have molds that have the above type plastic holders and as for as preferance the football would be the one. For me it causes a little less damage and I get a few more fish per bait. But that being said on all my favorite molds have been changed to a wire gripper, hands down for me the best way to go. EironBreaker
I've modified most of my molds to have two of the upper picture. Just grind out the bottom half to match to stock keeper. Two keepers on opposing sides. It works pretty good but a wire keeper is the best by far to hold plastics without tearing them up too bad. Fish can mangle a jig trailer in a heartbeat no matter what holder you have though. Just depends on how they are hooked.
mark poulson
I like the ring and barb for jigs with skirts. The skirt ties on above the ring, and the trailer attaches to the barb. I use wire to tie on my skirts, and leave a twisted wire tag, which I fold down and thread into the plastic trailer as an additional holder. For football jigs with hula grubs I just use the barb only head.
Tree_Fish
This is what I use as a "barb" It's just a single strand of weedguard bent in half, wrapped and tied with braid and super glued. It works very well for me.
toadfrog
Shrink tube works well using mindhunters train of thought.
JSC
Here are a couple examples of the best "Holding Stems" for Soft Plastic. (In my opinion been using this set up since the 60's) The "Nipple" end after insertion holds all the way around ... as well as a Suction effect. Works best when you cut off any rounded end ... Lube (water is ok) and insert. The Single or Double Barb part "Cut" there way in and leave a cut trail. The wire is to me the second best way. Hope this throws some more light on the subject.
