Musky Glenn
I reassembled my band saw this morning and while I was cutting out the first lure body the rubber band came off the drive wheel of the band saw. Is contact adhesive the best glue for refastening the rubber to the alum. wheel? Musky Glenn
mark poulson
Glenn, I have never repaired/replaced the rubber tires on my bandsaw wheels. But I've used contact cement a lot. I found that it creeps, especially when heated, which can happen from friction in a bandsaw wheel. I would call a local tool repair shop and ask them what they use. crankpaint
You should be able to call the manufactor and order a new one
Musky Glenn
Thanks Crankpaint, It didn't hurt the rubber, it just came off and I need to know which type of glue to use to hold rubber to alum. Musky Glenn
bluetickhound
Have you looked at Barge? I think it would work. I have used it in the past for leather work and other projects and can't think of an application where it has failed me.
Lincoya
Musky Glenn, I had the same problem 2 or 3 years ago. I used contact cement on both the wheel and the tire (as it's called). Hasn't come off since. Gene
Salty's
Clean the wheel real well of dust and use Wood/Rubber/Plastic CA glue, available in thick, thinner, thin mix. I'd use the thick and put a bead around the wheel then lay the rubber down on it. It will never come off again and will hold nicely compared to contact cement. I use this stuff everywhere in the shop on a daily basis, get a spray bottle of accelerator too. You will love this stuff.

Lincoya
Mark, I had to do something so I thought I would give it a try. I didn't expect it last long so I went and bought new urethane tires. The urethane tires are still in their original package. I've not had to use them yet. As a rule my bandsaw get turned on at least once every day. mark poulson
Did you use solvent based or water based contact cement?
Lincoya
I used solvent based.
Musky Glenn
Thanks to all of you. I knew this would be the place to find the answer. Musky Glenn
mark poulson
I used solvent based. Thanks. My tires are more than 20 years old. I noticed the last time I changed the blade that they are showing age cracks. I'm sure I'll have to replace them sooner or later. It's good to know I have repair options. Musky Glenn
I reinstalled my band saw tires this morning and they work great. Thanks for all the advise. Contact adhesive is the trick. It was good to cut out some more baits. Musky Glenn

There are supposed to last longer and require no glue to install. Gene
Musky Glenn
Lincoya, It may be a while before I replace them as they are only 40 years old. It was my dad's which he bought when he retired about 1975. If I use it much they will need replacing and I'll keep that type in mind. Thanks, Musky Glenn

Lincoya
Mark, Woodcraft has them. Here is a link for your size: http://www.woodcraft.com/product/2004896/7285/carter-urethane-tire-for-16-band-saw-112-wide.aspx You can probably find them at other places but Woodcraft is where I bought mine. I've bought most of my woodcarving tools from them and have had a great business association with them. Gene
