Plastic Stiffness Between Brands

Recommended Posts

Im looking to switch from LC to either CC or MF.

I have been using the 536 soft formula and adding just a tiny bit of hardner to get my desired stiffness.

Most companies have soft, medium and hard plastic but I have not been able to find any info on how they compare to each other. Is CC soft formula softer, harder or the same as LC Soft?

And how about MF soft?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to have an Idea what im getting before I get 5 gallons of something I can't use.

Thank you

Call jeff at M-F. I'm sure they will send you samples if you pay for shipping.

Their super soft is a floating compound and the soft is a sinking. Both are great for salted sticks as well as others. The sinking requires about 30% less salt and a touch of softener. The SS requires nothing but salt.

What type of baits are you making? Call these places and ask pint size samples and ask questions. Most are very willing to help.

Ok Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure how likely these companies would be to send samples. Glad to hear some will.

I pour swimbaits with no salt added. The stiffness has to be consistent with each batch. Im Just tired of mixing the hard pack in LC and I had a 5 gallon that no matter how much I mixed it it was too soft. I don't think many people would have noticed the change but its obvious to me. Called LC about it and they offered to send some hardner but I already had some. I was able to eventually figure out how much hardner to add to get them right. Nothing against LC, I like their products but no more mixing for me.

With MF

Yeah, once you don't thoroughly mix a compound that hard packs, you're kind of screwed. I've always been partial to M-F which, with a few rockings back and forth of the 5 gallon jug and you're good to go for the day. It's been a while and do believe there are others out there now that don't hard pack. For swimbaits (of course depending on size) I always went with their medium. That's what worked for me.
