andy1976
I want to have some eye slots (cavities) on my doit style 9shad molds. On my Collins molds they have a rod or something pressed in. Does anyone know where I can have this done. Or does anyone have time and abilities to?
toadfrog
You can do that yourself with a drill press and a cheap pop rivet gun . Drill the hole where you want the eye in one cavity . Close the mold turn it over and use the hole you just drilled for a guide to drill the other side . Then take a pop rivet reverse the direction of the nail in it by sliding off the aluminum rivet replacing it on the nail in the opposite direction . Slide the nail threw the hole on the inside of the cavity . Use the rivet gun to pull it into place . When it is seated the nail will pop out . This allows you to change the rivets at will to larger eyes if needed by drilling out the rivet . Determine hole dia. by measiring the tang of the rivet . the hole should be .005 or larger than the rivet tang . You will get the eye socket impression you nedd when you pour the mold. cranker
I did the same modification on a do-it 3/8 oz roundhead jig by drilling a small hole thru the center of the head on each side of the mold then put very small screws thru and put lockwashers and nut on the threaded part of the screw on the outside of the mold.I used jb weld to fill in the screwdriver slot on the screwheads. It has worked great so far over several hundred pours. With that being said be very sure you really want the recessed eye sockets for good because once you put a hole thru your mold its there for good! I have since decided its not really worth adding eyesockets because now you just about have to use the stick on eyes for the jig to look rite and the eyes really has'nt made a difference other than it looks good.I catch the same fish on my jigs without the eye.Just something to think about. ute
You are right, the fish don't care. However, being in the retail end of this business I rarely have a fish standing in front of the cash register!
