tbrinlee
Not really sure if anyone was interested or not but here are the plans for the 3/0 - 6/0 Eagle Claw Squid Jig Lead Head. The bodies are turned on a wood lathe, the bills are made from 1/16 wood cut out on my scroll saw. The pdf's are 1:1 and you can print the bill off on a paper label the cut it out. IF anyone wants more details on the hook and bill insertion, let me know. I know the 4/0 comes out as 2oz. (see my previous post) we'll see how the others weigh after I make finish the molds. I have the bodies turned and will try and cut the bills and assemble the hook and bill into the bodies this weekend. I'll post the pictures of the final wood lure that I will use for the silicone molds as well as pictures of the molds and lure weights when I finish. Anyway... it aught to be fun. cadman
Very cool. So the million dollar question. Are you a cad guy and did you draw that? Just curious.
tbrinlee
Very cool. So the million dollar question. Are you a cad guy and did you draw that? Just curious. I am a was a cad guy (actually an electrical engineer). I made my living through the 80's and 90's doing electro-mechanical work. I became pretty adept at plastics, sheet metal work, and machined parts as a part of owning my own company. I now work for a big company and fishing is something I hope to do a bit more of over the coming years. I just goof around now. I just wasn't finding what I wanted in the squid heads I was seeing on-line. I have since found some that are closer to what I was looking for but thought this might be fun to tinker with. Sorry... forgot to finish answering your question... Yes I made the drawings. I thought of doing a 3D model so I could estimate the final weight of the finished product (volume* density) but chose to not do that. The reason was that the hooks really don't offer much in the way of modifying the body size since the distance from the eyelet to the first bend sets the radius of the body OD. The bill is then roughly 2x the body width (set from the pictures of the squid I measured), and finally the tip length and body length are roughly the same (same as the squid pictures), so basically that one dimension on the hook pretty much sets everything else. tbrinlee
OK I completed the molds and ran the first batch of each size. Here are the 3/0 (45 g or 1.5 oz), 4/0 (55 g or about 2 oz), 5/0 (70 g or about 2.5 oz), and the 6/0 (substituted a 7/0 hook 112 g or about 4 oz). The sizes pretty much ended up like I wanted (2 jigs at a time) so here it is. The two tone silver flake grey and white glow bottom doesn't show well (I suck as a photographer).
