Hi-lites Questions

Hey everyone. New here, but not to reading everyone's great posts and advice. I've been pouring for a while and I'm starting to expand some colors. My ? is I see a lot of recipes that include Hi-Lites, what do Hi-lites do for the baits? Any info would help greatly, thanks in advance!

Hilites add a outer "skin" to the baits.

Here is a brown with a green hilite, a grape with a green hilite, and magic craw (green pumkin with blue hl) .

Bill, thank you very much! When do you add the Hi-Lite?

I add it to hot plastic. Usually a smidge to 4 oz.

Thanks Monte. Im not new to pouring, just the Hi-Lites.

So am I correct in thinking that you should not put a certain color hi-lite on the same color? In other words, you shouldnt put a blue hi-lite on a blue bait right?

From your pics, you are putting different color hi-lites on different colors.

I usually dont.

Try it though. You can get some nice combos and effects with the hilites.

You can also make colors change. Try 4 oz. plastic; 2 drops black; 1/16 to 1/8 tsp of blue highlight( depending on how much color you want) and black glitter. You'll be amazed at what you get. Use as a belly color with a black back.
