Final Coat On Trout Bombs

Recommended Posts

I've been making some trout bombs for use in Chesapeake bay. I take a small in-line sinker and flatten it a little, powder coat it, add a little glitter and then put a strip of holoform tape and some eyes on it. I've tried putting a final coat of clear nail polish on it to sort of seal the tape and eyes on. However, last batch it seemed that the polish started stripping the paint and made the tape come off. I'd like any ideas for a final coat that would toughen up and seal the tape on. This being a first post, I'm gonna try and load a pic, but we'll see. Thanks in advance, Mark.

Welcome to the board Mark. This comes up a lot and over the years I've tried a lot of stuff, nail polish reacts with some kinds of adhesive materials, quick coat seal coat works but isn't very durable and a lot of epoxies turn yellow after a short time but not D2T. Devcon 2 Ton epoxy, the 30 minute, the 5 minute has very little working time and even the 30 minute is misleading but it is the best I've used. You put it on in a thin coat with a brush, don't worry about brush marks as the stuff is self leveling and if you aren't in the need for mass production I recommend not to thin it, a lot of guys report problems with bubbles after thinning with denatured alcohol and things like that. So find an ACE hardware store and get some, you'll be glad you did.
