Thru Wire Hinge

have been working on this for a while. not sure if its been done here before.

i make my wood lures mostly out of balsa with thru-wire and have always had problems doing jointed lures - the topcoat gets everything stuck togther.

was trying to figure out a way that i can paint and finish each segment indivually before linking them up.

I hope you get it worked out, too, and post the results here.

Those are some of the main issues that caused me to switch to PVC decking and trimboard for hardbaits.

And your bait is beautiful.

You can use the pin style you have (pin hole drilled thru to line up with screw eyes) pre drill the hole for the pins to make sure it works then just paint the lure without the pin in place and topcoat all the parts then after the topcoat is dry re drill thru the topcoat and install the pins touch up the holes where the pins are with tocoat and your finished

It looks like you got a good idea with the screws. I want to know how you did the scales. Is that paint or foil? Very nice job carving that bait. Looks like it will swim very nicely!

thanks for the feedback & suggestions.

the lure swims well and i'm happy with the joint. its a configuration of same orientation overlapping wire eyes with a stainless steel screw acting as a pin. i could put the lure together to test it, then take it out of the water, take out the screw and foil each segment seperaterly. haven't had the time to paint it up yet.

for the scales - its carved in the balsa, sealed, then foiled over.
