J lure
Has anyone modified a mold by adding a type of hook slot? I was thinking about trying to add a shallow hook slot to a mold I have,by trying to attach a paper clip wire to the the top of the mold for the slot.... Will this work? Also any advice on attaching? Bass4Me
A dremel tool with the right bit in it is how to mod it. A very steady hand and working slow. Otherwise you'll ruin the mold. If you do make a mistake, you might be able to fill the mistake with a product called Bondo - Plastic Metal or another is Quick Steel. Just make sure that it is flat on the surface to allow the mold to seal and not leak.. Best choice is a metal shop, they may have the tools to mod it. nova
I've always made it a point to not mess with alum. molds myself (too easy to mess up and too costly to ruin). I would take it to a machine shop and have them cut a slot to accept a piece of alum. to make the hookslot. Still could get messed up though. www.novalures.com

Funny, I work with metal for a living and all my molds are RTV
J lure
Yea but if I cut into the mold that will make a protrusion line and don't I want a intrusion line in order to create a hook slot right? I'm probably not using the correct terms or words.
Musky Glenn
Are you wanting the hook slot in the plastic or the alum. mold? Since this is the soft plastic forum I would think you would need to add a flat metal plate to the alum. mold to create a void in the plastic. But then you could be wanting to pour a Bull Dawg type lure in which you would need a hook slot cut in the alum. for the hook to lay in so you can pour plastic around the hook. Kind of confusing to me. Musky Glenn Edited August 25, 2012 by Musky Glenn

You can just clamp a piece of tinfoil in the mold where you want a slot. Granted this isn't a production method, but if you just want a few lures with hook slots, it works very well, and doesn't require modifying the mold
