Pop Molds

Recommended Posts

I'm still sitting around and haven't made any molds yet. I just can't get motivated enough to make any as I still do not have the plastic and dyes. That is the biggest cost and could be after Christmas before I can afford it. I have other hobbies that I indulge more of my time in and spend extra on that one as I play every week, Sometimes more often and travel to Knoxville, Tn and Atlanta, Ga to play as well (It isn't any type of poker, lol).

But I do have a ton of time to plan what baits I'll pour. I've been reading about POP molds and how fragile they are.

I bought Hodge Podge glue to seal the cavities and vent holes.

I have a tip for everyone that's makes POP molds.

Glue stiff but thin cardboard to the bottom of the pop mold. If you have a 2 part mold, then glue cardboard to both the top and bottom. If you make a 1 piece mold and also made the frame for it too, just leave the frame around the mold as support. Trim the top edge so it's level with the thickness of the mold. Better protection in case you happen to drop a precious mold.

Hope this helps in the long run..

Collect up all the baits you never use and practice with them if you really must but I would start making moulds now as that way you will have plenty of time for the POP to cure properly between stages. Making the moulds is the hard, time consuming part. Actually pouring/injecting the baits takes no time at all.

Yep, what he said! Start making your molds now as there will be some do overs, I'm sure. Besides once you get your plastic what are you going to do without having any molds? You can use crayons, pastels, etc for coloring as well. Welcome and get going!

Just a thought......take that gas money you keep pumping in to drive around and go buy some plastic!
