mafloyd88
i am wanting to make a silicon jig mold and this is the hook that is in the Jig I am trying to duplicate. Any ideas who makes the hook or what a good alternate hook would be. The hook is pictured on 1/8" grid paper and the hook is .046 down close to the hook eye. cadman
The hook is a 30 degree hook. Either a 3/0 Mustad 32886 BLN or a 3/0 EC 3886. The Eagle Claw is an identical replacement for it, and the new Eagle Claws are sharp and cheaper in price. The hook I measured is an EC 3/0 with a .057 wire diameter. My hook at the bend .772, slightly over 3/4". The lengths were identical You mentioned .046 is that the wire diameter??
smalljaw
That looks like a Musad 32724, it could also be a Mustad 32886. The 32724 is a 28 degree hook and the 32886 is a 30 degree hook so that is the difference and if you like that hook and want the same performance for less money, try the Eagle Claw L2724BP, I know it is an Eagle Claw hook but it is the new Black Pearl or platinum series and I have used 2 different hooks from the series and they perform great, these new ones aren't your daddys Eagle Claw hooks. cadman
My error. Smalljaw is 100% correct. I forgot about the 32724 hook. I just measured one and it is .046 wire diameter with a .665 hook bend. I believe it still is a 3/0, because I check the 4/0 and it was too long. The hook I mentioned 32886 is way too thick for what you have shown above.
mafloyd88
It doesn't appear that the 32724 or the Eagle Claw L2724 come in a 3/0. What is the length of the 4/0. I measured 1.843 on the hook I have. Thanks for your help guys.
allatoona bait maker
Mustad 32886 comes in 3/
cadman
The EC L2724 measures 2.032 long. I don't have the Mustad version so I can't measure it. You may have a custom hook someone had made.
A.C.T. LURES
The hook in the picture looks to be a Bronze finish, the Mustad 32724 is a black nickel finish Paul
mafloyd88
Here is a photo comparison of the Eagle Claw L2724BP 4/0 vs Mustad 32724BLN vs Hook in question. The Eagle Claw is the top hook. Mustad is in the middle. Both are good hooks. Slightly bigger than the hook in question but for all practical purposes should serve the purpose. I am also considering the Mustad 91768BLN. It is a EWG hook and comes in a 2/0 and 3/0 size if I wanted to go smaller. What do you guys think about a EWG hook vs round bend? Does it effect the hookup ratio and which style do you guys prefer? Many thanks to cadman for the sample hooks for the comparison.

As far as your other questions. The 91768 hook is thicker than any of the above, also as you mentioned it is an EWG. As far as hook up ratio goes. I have heard both sides. Some guys like them myself included and some guys say they miss too many hooksets. I am a slower methodical jig fisherman. I will let the bass pick up the jig and swim off with it for about 5 to 10 seconds and then set the hook. I also use very thin weedguards, which in my opinion, is thin enough for the bass to compress and enough weedguard material, to keep the weedguard pressed against the inside of the fish's mouth so the hook doesn't shake loose. I think EWG versus round bend is a personal choice and if you can adapt and it works for you so much better. Here are some specs on the 2/0,3/0 and 4/0 #91768 Mustad EWG hook 2/0.........1.850" long from hook eye to hook bend........from the hook shank to the top of the EWG is .944" and a .050 wire diameter. 3/0.........1.932" long from hook eye to hook bend........from the hook shank to the top of the EWG is 1.039" and a .053 wire diameter. 4/0.........2.131" long from hook eye to hook bend........from the hook shank to the top of the EWG is 1.135" and a .057 wire diameter. smalljaw
I'm with cadman on this, we seem to have very similar styles when it comes to fishing. When I started using the poison tail jig with the 91786 I was thrilled with it, the hook up to land ratio was fantastic, most fish hooked with that will not come off. I really like round bend hooks too but the EWG is my preference as I've had great success with it, I also like the fact I can get away with a bulky trailer and not have to worry about having enough bite left to hook the fish solidly, that is a big plus.
