Spinner Bait Wire

Recommended Posts

I asked this question to a group of Fishermen on a football discussion board and although #1 got the most responses as their favorite, a lot of them were exactly what JSC has said, different strokes for different folks, but to go deeper into that, it seems that a lot of them liked the twisted better on heavier Spinnerbaits with larger blades.

If you are talking about the line tie loop definitely the R bend (open loop). with .040 or bigger that provides more than enough strength. Also an R bend allows a little more vibration to be transmitted through the entire bait. I personally use .030 for 1/8 or 1/4 oz spinnerbaits and .035 for 3/8 oz. baits. Have no problems with strength.

I like the closed loop so the snap doesn't slide down against the blades. I really like .029 for vibration, forget about how long they last. They just catch more fish (for me). Do you know how bad a 1/4 oz. spinner bait looks after it catches a 20 # musky? That is just the price we pay. Musky Glenn
