RayburnGuy Posted October 26, 2012 Report Share Posted October 26, 2012 Not sure that it matters Doc. Some folks swear by them and others say it doesn't matter. I would think that on deep diving cranks it certainly doesn't matter since red is the first color to disappear as you go deeper. I do like a red bead between my worm and bullet weight though. Kris Posted October 29, 2012 Report Share Posted October 29, 2012 I have seen my brother and I fish the exact same bait with the same pattern and colors. I couldn't get a bite while my brother was pulling them in. Difference .... he had a red hook on the front. I've made the change while fishing and started catching fish after replaced hook with a red one. We were fishing around 4-6 feet. Don't know if the red hook made the difference or not. Also being a slot- racer, I was able to use some of my armeture dye, which gives my hooks a nice annodized looking finish..... woodieb8 Posted December 7, 2012 Report Share Posted December 7, 2012 we tried the red vmc trebles years back. while the hooks were good,they never increased catch rates. thats on 6 inch muskie baits.. most buyers prefer nickel plated here in the great lakes region. fordguy_85 Posted December 7, 2012 Report Share Posted December 7, 2012 I've used red, nickel, and black nickel hooks, and I haven't noticed an improvement going from the black hooks to red. But, for some reason that may just be my mind, I do seem to notice better bite ratios going from nickel to either black or red hooks.
