Killerbug
Hi, I poured some smaller softbaits the other day, but have some problems with the colours. The yellow i used, looked bright and vivid right after the baits was poured, but the next day the yellow had faded, into some kind of fleshy pale yellow. My red light red, did better, but I can notice a slight fade in that too. The plastisol was also from lurecraft. Any clue, what might have went wrong?? Possibly the colors are bleeding into each other and/or there was too much colorant in each mix.
Killerbug
Actually I used a very small amount of colors, and the yellow and red where used separately together with clear. But the colors bleed a little into the clear bodies, but I don't think thats the reason.
finesse1331
Did you shake the crap out of your colors before you added them to the plastic, if your colors have been sitting for awhile they do settle, kinda like plastisol and its hard packing. I would make sure you shake them up very well.
Killerbug
No, I did not shake them well before use. I will try that today, and hopefully it will help.
nova
Put a couple of nuts in the bottles of color. This will help to stir it up when you shake the heck out of it.
Killerbug
Thanks for your help guys, I have made a bunch this morning, so now I hope these will be more color stable.
Painter1
Your problem may be colorant settling, as others have described. As a painting contractor, we know that intense reds and yellows generally are not as colorfast as they used to be several decades ago. Chromium was an important element in the pigments for those colors and the heavy metals have been stripped out. Even mild UV exposure degrades those colors faster than others. rev. taz
I would recomend using stainless steel bb's in your bottles as mixing balls... stainless won't tarnish and contaminate your colors....
Killerbug
This time only some baits have faded a bit, and some are still vivid. Obviously it helped to shake the bottle well before, adding the color. Maybe this bottle has been standing a long time on the shelve. I think i will also try to open it, and stir in the yellow the the color with a stick. I have some colors from another company than Lurecraft, though none in yellow, and they seems more stable. Basscandy92040
I have had the same problem with the Lemon Yellow when I poured some swimbaits for saltwater. After I put them in the store and came back they had changed some...GRRR...I was told that if may have had the plastic too hot and was asked if I used heat stab. I think I used like 20 drops and 2 drops of blk for a golden yellow I was going for. So now I use heat stab and dont have a problem...That was my experience with the yellow. LC's bright red is very transparent and I have to use a lot of it to get the deep red color I am looking for with a some added colors, black and pumpllin...making tomato seed....my .
