shastaron
I am looking for an equivalent for the Eagle Claw 410 60 degree O'Shaughnessy Jig Hook but in a lighter guage wire. Any suggestions? Thanks,Ron
cadman
Ron, I don't know how light you want to go but there are a lot of equivalents. The only thing is I don't know what mold you are using these hooks on and their fit. However if you want an EWG, you can use EC(Eagle Claw) L111BP or a gami 2014, regular round bend hooks are Mustad 32786 and 32729, EC L786, Owner 5317 and 5304, and Gami
shastaron
Thanks Cadman. I will do some experimenting. I am pouring some tube weights. Edited December 18, 2012 by shastaron
Ogajiga
If you're particular about the hook shank going straight thru the middle of the Do-it TX head, the hook eye slot will have to be modified to fit most of the hooks mentioned depending on size. If you don't mind an off angle shank fit, then the stock mold fits are expanded considerably. Closest equivelant wire size would be the Eagle Claw & Mustad -86 series. Ogajiga
Sorry, overlooked the "lighter gauge wire". The lighter wire 60* jig hooks I'm familiar with Mustad 32729 & clone Eagle Claw L2729BP have long leg mold fit challeges - I prefer to bend the hooks for a neat fit. The medium wire EWG Gamakatsu 2014 & Sohumi 114 might be a closer stock fit, but my Tube TX mold is already eye slot modified so can't advise on that. Ogajiga
Here's how 4/0 Ultra Point 32729 & Gami 2014 sit in the TX mold with hook eyes in approx. stock position. Note that hook eye slots are enlarged from stock size and the middle cavity hook has been bent for a better fit. shastaron
Thanks hawn I didn't see your posts. I appreciate the effort you went to by posting the pictures. Thanks, Ron
shastaron
Does anybody have a source for the Sohumi 114. Barlow's has dropped it from their online catalog. It is a 60 degree light wire jig hook. I really like it and get special orders. Thanks, Ron
