Mr.Nsmith
There are flutter spoons from companies like lake fork and Strike King that cost a hefty $7-$10 for a piece of shiny metal with a possible paint job on it that can snag quite easily....Is there a way to make these huge spoons without the huge dent in the wallet?? What I am wanting to do is to make one of these not from a lead or brass....and I thought of using aluminum, but wouldn't that "rust" and I know stainless steel is a xxxxx to form with a hammer, a vise, and pliers...furthermore, there is a way to make spoons well with metal kitchen spoons, but the desire length is not there...so What should I do? makokeith
A guy just posted a spoon made out of nickel on another site. He even etched it. It came out pretty good. Not sure where you would get sheet nickel though.

smalljaw
Why not just invest in a flutter spoon mold and pour your own?
Mr.Nsmith
Because of I'm desiring a metal spoon not a lead based flutter spoon and the vibration from the metal would be better than the lead based spoon

Apdriver
Hi Mr. Nsmith, I too have searched and tried different things to cut costs on spoons for bass fishing. You mentioned Lake Fork flutter spoons and this is what the spoon manufacturers call their casting spoons. The most cost effective alternative I think is to buy the spoon blank and put the split ring and treble hook on yourself. If you want special finish and feathers, that isn't all that difficult with add on tape, Devcon 2 ton, and Mylar on hook. Here's a link to the type spoon they use down on Lake Fork. http://lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Casting-Spoons/Fingerling-Casting-Spoons.html By the way, the bass and spoon on my avatar are both from Lake Fork.
