RayburnGuy
Hey guys, Does anyone make a spinnerbait like the old Bulldog spinnerbait with the cone shaped head? All I can find these days are the ones with the rounded head. thanks, Ben
smalljaw
Are these the ones you are refering too? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BULL-DOG-LURES-SPINNER-BAIT-1-4oz-SW-MINT-/370610961121?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D4832801632488122376%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D370610961121%
RayburnGuy
No Smalljaw. I think the ones I'm talking about were discontinued several years ago. They had a conical head without any eyes or other embellishments on them. The head didn't have any indentations or anything. It was just in the shape of an ice cream cone. I don't have a picture as I lost the last one I had on my last trip to Falcon. Was hoping I could either find a mold for them or find someone with a mold that could pour some for me. thanks, Ben
smalljaw
Is the bullet spinnerbait head too round? I also saw some Bulldog spinnerbaits that looked a lot like the banana spinnerbait but I'm not sure if that is it or not. I wish I knew what they looked like and maybe I could help. RayburnGuy
To tell the truth it's one of those things where I've been using the old Bulldogs and it's become one of my favorites over the years. There's nothing really all that special about them. I just got my faith in them built up and there's something about the old baits that aren't made anymore. It makes you want them even more. I drew an outline of the head in my photo editing program to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. I didn't draw the hook or the complete wire frame, but I think you can get the idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks for taking so much time to fool with this Smalljaw. smalljaw
Judging from the diagram Ben, it looks like it was a good bait to use in and around grass. I also know how much it takes to build confidence in a bait and how much it means in fishing. If I come across anything that is close if not the original I'll let you know but in the mean time, you may want to think about getting a custom mold cut in that shape since there are few if any that have such a deep cone angle. cadman
Ben, A friend of mine has a mold that I think will work for your application, it's not as pointy as yours but will probably work. It was a custom one he bought at a gararge sale. I will PM you some pics tonight along with sizes, if you PM me your e-mail. What weights are you looking for, as I can have him pour you one and I 'll send it out to you so you can see it in your hands. Saugerman
One of the first do-it molds I ever bought was that shaped head for spinnerbaits. I guess it has not been made now for many years. It really didn't sell in my area, but it worked fine,I used to use it too. We're talking 1980s ,I don't no what ever happened to mine,I probably traded it for one I liked better.I used to buy do-it and hilts both, but pretty sure it was a do-it mold. If I run upon one I'll let you no.
