Scatter Shad Lip By Rapala

Recommended Posts

Thank you for the tip about Google translate.

I did run into another problem though.  I went through the whole process of registering to the website and even added some things to my shopping cart.  When I got to the checkout process, it never asked for a credit card number, but gave me the option of paying at the post office when I pick it up?

This really did not make any sense to me, and why it couldn't be delivered to my house, bur rather to the post office for pickup?

If anybody could help me out with this that would be great.

This is what used to be COD in the US.  In Europe the post office will still hold your mail as collateral until the bill is paid. According to  USPS.com it is still an option but most US businesses won't take the risk, or maybe additional time and fees.

I believe that when you select USA from the drop down menu it will let you select your address as for the credit card option, I have no idea why it wouldn't offer it. You may have to submit the order with a comment or contact their customer service department.

Good luck.

Thanks Dieter.  That ranges from the size of a dime to the size of a quarter for me.

Not familiar to US coins , Mark ,  ...but I'm sure , that these  are not cupped somehow  , LOL .

If you want , I could shoot some photos of book pictures showing some handcrafted Finnish lures equipped with such lips , ...sorry , but I do not have a scanner , .......just to give you an idea of their looks .

I own a few of such baits as well , ...but looking for them down the shop would take ages !

...........alright , taken the time to take a few snapshots from a book compilation of the work of Finnish hobby lures carvers , .....sorry for the bad quality .

These are typical Finnish baits , most likely carved from balsa and equippped with those typical saddle lips , ......sizes range from 50mm(2") to 145mm (5 3/4") , often stated at the bottom of the text on pages .

Note the longer , protruding tow eyes providing many options for tuning these lures(but also works with screw eyes) .

Cheers , Dieter :yay:

Thanks for the pictures Dieter.  Those are very nice lures.

I ordered several of the scatter lip Rapala lures, and I'll be able to see up close how they're made, and perform.

I'll post more once I've gotten them.

Mark , ....I have already checked them out , .......the internet is a great thing , .......click your way through to access action display videos in here :

I took a scatter rap minnow out for a test the other day and my only complaint is it did not hunt until you reached a certain speed and that was to fast for cold conditions we have right now.  The hunting action would be great for trolling and I believe it will be a very versatile bait.Even more so than the origanal it dives faster and farther  and it can also be used as a dive and rise jerk bait. I hope they make them in a magnum size for bigger fish.

I made one of these recently. It cast great! It cast so well in fact that it broke the line mid cast and kept on going. I had to walk around the lake to look for it. I got lucky, the wind was strong and found it!

Anyway I had the same issue as ROWINGADUBAY, it would not shift from side to side until you got to pretty high speeds. Too fast for this weather. other than that the lip makes it swim great!

I bought a few scatter lips at Bass Pro last week. Will be taking them fishing Wednesday, I got two #5 scatter raps,  two #7's and a count down. Will take a close up pic of them and post. It is  a neat looking lip. I think it is doable with a set-up like Pete made to bend lips with.

So no to ordering from the overseas website?

Apparently.... I spent the better part of three hours on the net trying to source somebody....ANYBODY!!! who sold these lips in the US.... I have tried (and failed miserably) to compound bend lexan. I tried to make one of Pete's (hazmail) devices for doing it a d cannot seem to get the feel for when the lexan is starting to soften and when it is actually already melted.... I also tried the spoon trick.... No luck....

Fortunately, one of the local big box sporting good stores in my area had some scatter raps in stock so I bought a few in assorted sizes to try out... They work great but the retrieve speed is somewhat tricky... Too slow, no hunt... Too fast and they flop around in a sort of spirally fashion, almost like they are line fouled... That being said, I really like 'em so far.

You could use a strong clear cast resin and make your own.  Make several shapes and sizes you want to try (since material doesn't matter) and make several within the same mold.  This way, you only have to make 1 test mold to cover all the sizes.  Once you figure out which lips work best on your lure, you can pour a handful of the lips you like and make a better mold.

That's a great idea! I am a big fan of the ACC which is a clear cast resin.... I'll give it a try and see if it works out.

I've cold bent 3/16'' lexan with this tool for a Grandma lip.  Don't go beyond 90 degrees otherwise it's going to crack.  My polycarbonate supplier told me you can cold bend thinner sheets in half without having them break.  I haven't tried it to confirm.

You can get this tool at Leevalley.com

Do a search for metal bender.

Hope this helps.

That's a neat device and it appears that it would yield crisp bends in lexan. My problem is that I'm trying to do compound curves....a much trickier proposition....at least for me it has been....

It's possible.

I just did it for this larger musky crank lip.  The female die is 7/8'' wide and 5/8'' deep.  I used a broomstick instead of the male die.  It worked better when I used the heat gun.

You may be able to replicate if it falls within these dimensions.  Or you could just supersize the lip a bit.

This was done real fast just to see if it would work.

Sorry about the watermark.

I happened to find one of these a couple days ago snagged in a log! I tried it for a bit and was not at all impressed with its performance. I had to reel it super slow just to look like a normal crankbait. Regular speed it just blew out constantly. It did seem to work well as a jerkbait when it was twitched. The lip actually has a ridge on it, but the ridge is on the underside of the lip, so I don't see how that would effect the action. As far as the curve goes it is curved both from side to side, and front to back if that makes any sense!3C2A7712-FF99-4D62-8669-502D5643E79C-288
