Fluid Bed?

Recommended Posts

I bought the fb3 model from CSI. I think it is great. I paint ten times the amount of jigs with it compared to hand dipping with the viny paint. It cost $79.00 plus shipping. Make shure you buy at least a pound of powder paint to fill up the cup. If you look at the construction it would not have been hard to make one.

Sure, it's not doing any good sitting on the shelf. Have two extra cups that go with it and I had to add an insert to the compression fitting that the air hose is attached to on the cup. The fitting that came on mine is used for hard tubing - was leaking when I got it. If I had the time/energy could probably build a "better mouse trap".

Tried using it twice with some powder paint that I was having trouble with (clumping). Talked with CSI and they told me that it was probably because of high humidity - so I gave up on the fluid bed. Tried mixing my problem paint with pro-tech paint and it seems to work ok. I think its a formulation thing...

If you're interested - can include some micro mesh material that you could use to make some additional cups. Its not the same medium that CSI uses - we use the mesh for spray drying pharmaceuticals (converting a liquid to powder).

Send me a PM.

When you get done with that one, do you want to make another? I am a fluid bed addict, its like crack, I gotta have it...

Just kidding, anyways, I would like a BIG fluid bed, like the size of my oven big. I want to be able to hang 400 jigs and dip them all at once!

I would have my kids sit there and hang jigs all day, all night, no food or water, you know...

I actually only want one to be about 18x 10, that should be big enough. Let me know if it is possible, and how much materials would cost... I would build it myself, mainly just need a price on the micro air hole thingy.

I want to make sure that I have a big enough fluid bed that I have to get powder coat by the train load... that is really all I want

I am sorry, I have been pouring all day, I am really tired, insert wire, pour lead, cut sprue, hang on rack, insert wire, pour lead, cut sprue....

I onl poured about 300 today, I was slacking, I had to bend some wire forms, that took me forever!

Babbling is good, LOL!

Hey fatratz, Just looking at your soon to be website... do you do all of them purty spinnerbaits with powder? I was in on one of the swaps and I was really impressed with the paint job, but I didn't think that you used powder... I could be thinking about someone else's stuff...

I am trying to figure out how to get some more detail out of our powder guns, but I haven't had a lot of luck...

Chris, you need to lay off the powder for awhile, I think it is starting to get to you :?: Just kidding..... The spinnerbaits I make are all painted with lacquer paint. Never tried any powder paint on spinners. The fluid bed is fairly easy to make. I need to see if I can find a larger size of the porous polyethylene sheeting. Largest I have found is 9.5"x 9.5" and its not real cheap (~$24.00).

Fat Ratz when you finish your fluid bed I`d also be very interested in how you went about making it. I use powder paint on some of my spinnerbaits, but it is time consuming process. I think with a fluid bed using the powder paint on the spinnerbaits would be a much faster and better process.

I use the single dipper from CSI, and I heat the heads up with a propane torch for 4 to 5 seconds, dip and hang on the oven rack, I can have 150 painted, cured, and ready to assemble in about an hour... for single colors that is... $79 for that model from CSI, I think that is a very good investment, I have 2 of them. I tried to put pro flake in the 2nd one for a glitter coat, but that didn' work so well. But having 1 of them is definitely worth the cost.

On the bigger fluid bed, I think that you could put 2 of them side by side with a small brace underneath to make a big enough fluid bed. The brace would slow the air flow for that one spot across the bed, but the flow from the sides would keep it fluffy enough, I would think?
