weedsnager
I have the lee 10lb production pot. I have it set on #7. After I add my lead, and it melts, I scape off the junk that's floating on top and everything if fine for about 10 minutes, then it starts to produce a brown crud on the top, I scape it away and it returns. When I was using the hot pot melter 2, I never had this problem
Jig Man
A couple of questions: Is your pot rusty? Do you flux your lead?

smallmouthaholic
Your lead may be too hot. Check it w/ a digital pyrometer. Personally ,I prefer temps in the 750 degree range.
smalljaw
Turn it back to 6 and see what happens because it sounds like it is too hot. You never had the problem with the hot pot because it was designed not to go over a certain temp but the Lee pot allows you to control the temp becaus harder leads require more heat so you have more options. I bet that your lead has a copper like tone before the crud starts building up, if that is the case than you neeed to cut the heat back.
