FLIPPY
I was wondering if anybody has added a fuzz to there rubber tackle,,What I mean is,,not adding it to the rubber until after it has set up,,I knew a guy that used to take factory baits and add a fuzz to the bait,,he gave me a few,,but I never asked him how he did it,,I had some beavers that were hairy, and when I put them in the water,,the air bubbles that clung to it was incredible,, Do you think I can heat the baits up until they get a little sticky and add,,, something like felt fuzz to them,,I dont know,,I have tried a few different ways but had no success yet,,Has anybody ever did this?? FLIPPY
Hey Nova,,I dont have pictures yet,, until I have succeeded,,I almost have it,,they only thing is,, the baits start to warp,, I am now leaving the bottom half of the bait in the mold and heating the top,,I am trying a whole bunch of materials for a fuzzy look,,the baits he gave me,, the bait looked like almost a fuzzy algea, that actually flowed with the water,, its hard to explain,,but when I get it I will definately send you some pictures,, especially in the water,,I went across the street to a local pond and turned over rocks,,the crayfish have that fuzz,,I actually have some crayfish in a small fish tank,,and I watch them during the moon phases,,they turn colors,,I have learned through that little trick,, basically what colors to throw,,wether Im flipping or throwing a jig,,its amazing how they turn colors through a coarse of a month,,and on a river,, that fuzz really turns on the smallies

mark poulson
Nil, Everything here is good. It's been in the high 70's/low 80's all week here in LA. But the temps are dropping and the winds are up to 45mph on the lake I'm fishing tomorrow. Life jackets and hold on!!! Strange weather, for sure. Done tournys with 40MPH winds and driving rain. Lots of fun running down the lake at 55mph. Then you get to your spot and the boat goes up and down 3 feet each way. Hard to fish. Sorry guys; didn't mean to highjack the thread. I think I have pics of the baits I did with feathers. If I can find them I'll post them in the gallery. Frank
When I read this post this stuff popped into my head. http://www.flockit.com/index.php/ Used it on other things but never on a bait. Might be worth a shot. Not to expensive. Frank
MonteSS
I would think with an open pour mold many different materials could be added to the belly. Rabbit fur strips would be cool. ...Bill

RayburnGuy
Wonder what Mark is going to say about flocking hairy beavers? Edited March 17, 2013 by RayburnGuy
Bass4Me
This is getting interesting, lol. OK, now, try going to a craft store and finding some material that is very fuzzy. TO get on your baits do this. 1) remove your baits from the mold a bit sooner than you normaly would (while tacky). Then press your material onto the backs of the baits and let baits cool off and harden. Pull the material off the backs of the bait and see if any of it sticks into the plastic like you want. 2) If #1 doesn't work, - Prep some clear plastic like you were going to make a clear bait. Pour you a few test baits. heat the clear while you are pouring the test baits. When ready, remove baits from mold and lay out so the back is facing up. Take a small brush and brush on a thin coat of clear plastic to the backs of the baits, when clear coat is still tacky, but not too dry. Press on fuzzy material and let sit till clear coat and bait is cool.. Then pull material off each bait and see if it sticks into the clear coat of plastic and has the right effect on the bait. Hope one of the idesa work. Steve Edited March 18, 2013 by Bass4Me

mark poulson
I found some feathers that were barred and about the size of a silver dollar. I don't remember the name of the bird they came from, but I think it was some kind of pea fowl. I put them in my fat Ika two part mold, closed it, and poured them with a clear plastic. They came out looking like a fat minnow with full dorsal and anal fins, front to back. The mold is top pour, and has pretty big vent holes at the bottom, so, as long as I pour them slowly, they fill perfectly and look really neat in the water. I haven't gotten on them yet, but I am going to throw them this spring.
