anglersambush
I need your help here. I have this mold and I am only getting a good ratio of 24%. I keep getting dents in the sides and top or bubbles in the claws. This is the 4 cavity mold. Plastic - temps I have tried: 374-1 good, 330 - 1 good, 300 - 1 good, 290 2 good, I tried 270 but got clumps and still only had 1 good one LC ez pour soft, LC soft, and ccm/doit soft speed - 1 count, 3 count, 5 count and 7 count: counting one 1000. 3 count gave me 2 good ones Holding pressure - 5 sec, 10 sec, 30 produced 2 good ones, 1 minute 1 good... Clamping - wing nut that came with it: light pressure - just enough to keep the mold closed, as tight as I can turn still only one good bait irwin clamps - 300 lbs light pressure one good one; as tight as I can squeeze 2 good baits, the closer to the center the better I am thinking it is the mold not venting enough to get rid of the bubble, and the shrinkage is from not being able to pull enough plastic when it cools. ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!!! I am attaching pictures of the dents since this was requested on the previous post about this mold. anglersambush
One last thing, I have shot this mold, cold, warm and hot. still have dents or bubbles.
ipt
is that the 702? ive shot the 4 cavity without issue. sometimes theres dents on the sides of the claws. my best luck was with plastic about 330 degrees, super slow inject, dont need to hold pressure but you do need to top it off. make sure your injector is good with solid o-rings so theres no air in that. the wing nuts it came with should be fine, dont over fill the mold, once your injector bottoms out you dont need to push any more
MonteSS
Ya. If you are talking about 702 4 cavity mold, I tighten wingnuts hard and inject fairly hard and fast and hold pressure 15 secs and top off. ....Bill
basshunter5
I have 7 of the 4 cavity 702 craw molds now, I don't use the wingnuts just 3 clamps. I shoot fairly slow but hold pressure for a 5 count and make sure you top off.
mark poulson
I am wondering if how you inject them makes a difference, too? I mean, what type of equipment you use.
MonteSS
I would guess you are not turning your injector upside down and purging it. No way air and bubbles can get in the claws if you do that every time. .....Bill
anglersambush
I have the six oz basstackle injector. monte I am purging before shooting. I have found burrs around the location pins. might be that.
MonteSS
I purposely sucked up air here. ....Bill
anglersambush
I have seen this video, this was the first thing I watched after looking at another post.on the same topic. I love the action of this bait, the dents don't effect the action, but I am gaining a following for quality lures....and the dents make it tough for me to market this lure. I purge every time I shoot and still get the dents. Do you know what would cause dents.
Frank
It is the shrinkage of the plastic. The thin appendage solidifies and causes the dents. If they were thinker it would not have the same action. When ever you have a design like that it becomes an issue. It would not be as bad if he had just a rib on the outer edge but we know where that will get you. Not sure if the good one come from the same cavity or changes from shot to shot. anglersambush
Frank, I have gotten at least one good bait out of each cavity and it varies between them.
Frank
Could you cut the bad ones at the dent and see if it is air or just shrinkage?
anglersambush
Frank, I just cut them and it is shrinkage on the dents. no doubt, cut the ones pictured above. There was a few bubble also but there are distinct differences in the two.
Frank
You will have to find a sweet spot for shooting that mold. It may take a lot of trial and error. You will probably have to try different plastics too. I shoot mine with spike it injectasol medium and my success rate is much higher than yours. I have four of those mold and just use two c clamps on all four mold at once. Also use the Twinjector 80% of the time. This keep the plastic a little cooler.
