garthsnooks
what's a good BLN light to med. saltwater jighook for trout/reds/flounder. Thanks
smalljaw
I don't know much about saltwater but it was always my understanding that saltwater was corrosive to the black nickel coating so most saltwater hooks are made using a duratin coat but I could be wrong but I never saw a black nickel saltwater hook. andy1976
I've been using eagleclaws black nickel hooks and they hold up really. well in the salt. left a couple in a tupperware of water with no rust after a month. Eagle claw has a really good catalog online too
JSC
So far I have had good luck in Saltwater with the EC Black Nickel Edited April 10, 2013 by JSC
garthsnooks
thanks guys...I like the look of black nickel hooks. I'll get samples of Mustad and EC's hooks (anyone else??).... I like Owner really well...but can't make volume baits with them, just too expensive. Edited April 11, 2013 by garthsnooks
andy1976
Not exactly light but the eagle claw equivalent to the 32786 is a great saltwater hook. I have some 6/0 if you want I can send a couple. I think I paid 75 shipped through shortys. Perfect saltwater jig hook IMO.
garthsnooks
Thanks Andy, got 'em coming from another source, I appreciate it
smalljaw
Well if you're recommending them for saltwater then I guess they are ok but I'm really impressed with the Eagle Claws Black Platinum/Pearl series in freshwater. The hooks are very sharp, stout and after 2 seasons with various models with zero failures I'm sold, the best bang for buck in hooks for sure, Mustad made a mistake going to china as their quality dropped considerably. andy1976
I have just black platinum is there a difference with the pearl?
garthsnooks
great question, andy...believe a spincaster told me it wasnt strong enough for my need...but was good for his freshwater baits.
smalljaw
I have just black platinum is there a difference with the pearl? No difference, when they first came out they were called the black pearl series but the new ones are all black platinum. I include both as some vendors still call them black pearl series so to avoid confusion I just say both so you know they are the same.
