JBlaze
Just a tip. When you form your stencil over a lure half, it's easy to get carried away to make it a perfect fitting shell. In my opinion, leave the shell so that it doesn't hug the lure quite so tight. 2 reasons for this: 1) Even with resin lures, each bait is not 100% the same size. In addition, each layer of paint adds to the mass of the lure. A tight fitting stencil may not fit every lure you intend it too. 2) A tight fitting stencil WILL SCRATCH OR RUB PREVIOUS LAYERS OF PAINT FROM THE LURE! If you have to pry the lure off, its too tight! Good luck! A-Mac, I hadn't thought of that. I have two stencils made and cut, both are very tight and do have to be popped off. I have not had the time to paint with them yet so, I appreciate the heads up on this. Thanks John
nedyarb
I learned this weekend! Do not get the stencil too tight! It will certainly scratch your lure.
castncall
The way I make my pattens is take the lure you ar using ad free hand the pettern on the bait its self then when the mold is finished trace on the plastic with a fine point sharpie so u alread have the pattern and then its a lot easier to cut it out, just my 2 cents its not perfect but it has worked for me
ravenlures
Why not complete a lure with all the coatings of whatever you use DN, E-tex then make a stencil so that when you form it it will be just the right tightness. That way it should be loose on just the painted lure, or am I just barking up the wrong tree. Wayne
A-Mac
Good point. I tried it. The only bad thing is it's easy to ruin a good lure with too much heat against the clear coat.
